“Chi” energy is a subtle flow of electromagnetic energy that permeates everything and links all things in the universe together. The pictures to the right is a good representation of how I see Chi energy. When I am talking to a client, I see how Chi flows around and through them and through the seven main Chakras (pictured at the bottom right of the page). Chi energy constantly flows through human bodies, plants or buildings, in and out and from other sources. Your own personal Chi energy is always mixing with the Chi energy around you, connecting you to your immediate environment.
These pictures of water are very good examples of what Chi energy looks like. Shown above is healthy free-flowing Chi which is crystal clear. Pictured below is an example of stagnant Chi which is darker silver to dark grey.

The Chi energy you take in from your environment influences your moods, emotions, physical energy and, over time, your health. Chi energy is carried through the environment by wind, water, the sun’s solar energy, light and sound. It moves in a similar way to these natural phenomena except that, unlike some of them, it is able to flow through solid matter. It flows in and out of buildings mainly through the doors and windows, but some Chi can enter and leave through the walls. It moves like water ebbing and flowing with the tides, and like air moving around the Earth
Theories of traditional Chinese medicine assert that the body has natural patterns of Chi that circulates in channels called meridians. Various illnesses, deficiencies, imbalances as well as spiritual issues are often the product of interrupted, disrupted, blocked, or unbalanced Chi movement through these meridians. By understanding the rhythm and flow of Chi, many practitioners believe that by adjusting the circulation of Chi using a variety of therapeutic techniques such as herbal medicines, special diets, exercise, moxibustion, massage and acupuncture, that these methods will relieve imbalances to give us health, longevity and stability.

Chi & Feng Shui
The traditional Chinese art of geomancy, the placement and arrangement of space called Feng Shui, is based on calculating the balance of Chi, interactions between the five elements, yin and yang and other factors. The retention or dissipation of Chi is believed to affect the health, wealth, energy level, luck and many other aspects of the occupants of the space. Color, shape and the physical location of each item in a space affects the flow of Chi by slowing it down, redirecting it or accelerating it, which directly affects the energy level of the occupants.

Understanding Chi Energy
There are no specific words for Chi energy in the West, although expressions such as “atmosphere”, “mood”, “life-force”, “spirit”, or "earth-spirit" describe how it is perceived. As for the rest of the world, depending on your geographical location, this electromagnetic energy has several names; In China it is called Chi, in Japan it is known as Qi and in India it is referred to as Prana. In this article I will referr to the energy as “Chi”
